Andy Ogles Leads, Beth Harwell Concedes in Tennessee Cong. District 5 GOP Primary – Opinion

Murray County Mayor Andy Ogles is currently leading in the Republican primary to represent Tennessee’s Fifth Congressional District.

According to Decision Desk Headquarters, he had 35 percent of the vote as of Tuesday, October 10, at 10:30 Eastern Time. 42 percent were reported.

Ogles will face Democratic Tennessee State Senator Heidi Campbell if he wins to succeed incumbent Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper.

Redistricting has led to the possibility of this seat being flipped Republican. It now encompasses more suburban areas and rural areas in Nashville.

RedState reported that Beth Harwell (former Tennessee House Speaker) conceded defeat in remarks made Thursday night.

“Again, I apologize. I don’t think we have enough to make up the defeat we took in Murray and Marshall Counties. While we were successful in Davidson County and are still where we are, we have made progress. I tell you what, I couldn’t have a better group of people,”

The race also features Retired Brigadier-General Kurt Winstead and Veteran of the Army Jeff Beierlein. RedState reports that Robby Starbuck, a film director is running a write in campaign following his removal from the ballot.
