Tulsi Gabbard lawsuit

Legal Document Filed by Tulsi Gabbard Is Chock-Full of Devastating Burns Against Hillary Clinton

A $50 million lawsuit filed by 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard against Hillary Clinton contains several swipes at the former secretary of state.

“Tulsi Gabbard is running for President of the United States, a position Clinton has long coveted, but has not been able to
attain,” reads the complaint filed Wednesday by Gabbard’s attorneys in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The complaint goes on to allege that Clinton “whether out of personal animus, political enmity, or fear of real change
within a political party Clinton and her allies have long dominated” lied about Gabbard.

“She did so publicly, unambiguously, and with obvious malicious intent. Tulsi has been harmed by Clinton’s lies—and American democracy has suffered as well. With this action, Tulsi seeks to hold Clinton, and the political elites who enable her, accountable for distorting the truth in the middle of a critical Presidential election,” the complaint reads.

In another part of the document, Gabbard’s attorneys refer to Clinton as a “cutthroat politician by any account” and slam the failed 2016 presidential candidate for purportedly characterizing Gabbard as a “Russian asset.”

In a press release announcing the lawsuit on Wednesday, Gabbard’s office points specifically to comments Clinton made in October during an episode of the “Campaign HQ” podcast, which is hosted by fellow ex-Obama aide David Plouffe.

Although Clinton stopped short of naming Gabbard during the interview, she was not subtle.

“I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” Clinton said. “She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”

Clinton went on to accuse Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president in 2016, of also being an asset of Russia.

“That’s assuming Jill Stein will give it up, which she might not because she’s also a Russian asset,” she said.

Gabbard responded shortly after in a series of tweets, calling Clinton “the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long.”

She went on to accuse the former secretary of state of orchestrating a smear campaign along with “powerful allies in the corporate media and war machine.” Then, Gabbard challenged Clinton to enter the 2020 contest.

“It’s now clear that this primary is between you and me,” Gabbard said. “Don’t cowardly hide behind your proxies. Join the race directly.”

Gabbard is seeking compensatory damages and an injunction against the former first lady.
