Replying to Ocasio-Cortez in a tweet, Woods said the freshman congresswoman was an “embarrassment to the nation.”

“Your tweets are managed by a staff,” the actor said. “You can’t put two words together. Be quiet. You’re an embarrassment to the nation.”

Woods was responding to Ocasio-Cortez’s criticism of Lee, who earlier in the day took to the Senate floor to mock the Green New Deal. The Bronx native accused Lee of not taking his role as a lawmaker “seriously” and lacking respect for Congress. She unfavorably compared Lee’s Green New Deal takedown to the “countless hours” she and “legislators, experts, & advocates” spent crafting the ambitious plan.

In an unorthodox presentation, Lee used portraits of late President Ronald Reagan riding a velociraptor while firing a machine gun, Tauntauns from “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” and DC Comics superhero Aquaman to make his case against the ambitious climate-change plan touted heavily by progressive Democrats, chiefly Ocasio-Cortez.

Lee’s main point was that while his monologue might have been a bit silly, it wasn’t nearly as absurd as the “unserious” proposals contained in the Green New Deal, such as the elimination of all air travel.

Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t amused, slamming Republicans well after the Senate debate ended in the rejection of the proposal by a 57-0 vote.

While Ocasio-Cortez has tried to persuade the public of the urgency of enacting her plan, the Green New Deal has been widely criticized by Republicans, and even some experts in the environmental field.
