Democrats American Flag

Every Leading Democrat Was Just Mailed an American Flag With Instructions on How to Use It

Every leading Democrat can expect to receive an American flag in the mail this week along with instructions on how to use it.

That’s thanks to a campaign by the Republican National Committee that aims to remind the opposing party of its patriotic duties.

RNC spokeswoman Liz Harrington said on “Fox & Friends” Friday that her group is shipping 73 American flags to the Democratic presidential candidates as well as the top Democratic National Committee official in each state. In Washington, D.C., Harrington said shipments had already gone out to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and DNC Chair Tom Perez.

Along with the flags, the RNC included a copy of the U.S. Flag Code, which details proper treatment of the national symbol.

“No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing,” the code reads.

Harrington joked: “The Democratic Party seems to have a problem with the flag these days, so we hope it’s not too triggering for them.”

Democrats and the American flag

According to Harrington, the Democrats have done too little to stand up to anti-American sentiment within their ranks.

“They’ve brought in the radical left into the mainstream of their party,” she said. “They refuse to condemn when radical left-wing activists raise the Mexican flag at one of our ICE facilities, they’re comparing our brave law enforcement to concentration camp guards and they are not able to even look at the Betsy Ross flag which represents our special and unique founding. So we want the Democrats to learn to honor and love and respect the flag as we do.”

Earlier this month, left-wing protestors pulled down the American flag at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement center in Aurora, Colorado, tried to burn it and replaced it with a Mexican flag.

In recent weeks, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, has compared U.S. migrant detention center to Nazi concentration camps and condemened ICE and Border Patrol as morally depraved agencies.

And ahead of the Fourth of July, Nike nixed a sneaker featuring the American Revolutionary flag designed by Betsy Ross after National Anthem-protesting former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick reportedly complained that it has racist connotations.

In each case, and a number of others, Democrats have generally stayed silent or voiced support for the left-wing critics.

“They are destroying the Democrat Party”

Fox News anchor Jillian Mele followed-up with Harrington: “I mean in fairness, it’s not every single person on the Democratic side, just to put that out there. But at the same time, we’re at this point in our country where you’re hearing so much criticism, so much anger and hatred when it comes to the flag. Are you surprised that this is even happening right now?”

“It is surprising, and I think a lot of Americans are sick and tired of it,” Harrington responded. “We’re proud of our country, we’re proud of our founding, and we’re proud of the flag. And we have the Democrats refusing to condemn this outrageous anti-American sentiment within their own party, just kowtowing to this socialist “Squad” is dangerous, and we see them not able to condemn anti-Semitism as well, which we’ve seen creeping into Great Britain in the Labour Party. Well it’s happening here in the Democratic Party.”

She continued: “We want to stand up for freedom and what it means, and the flag, what it means, is all the men and women who have died to protect our freedom that is so special, and we are the greatest nation on earth. We’re not going to apologize for it anymore, and the Democrats should stand up for that as well.”

Harrington’s comments echoed those President Donald Trump made earlier Sunday on Twitter. Extending a controversy he kicked off last week, Trump said that he doubted the Squad – Ocasio-Cortez and four other progressive freshman congresswomen “of color” – “are capable of loving our Country”

“They should apologize to America (and Israel) for the horrible (hateful) things they have said,” he added. “They are destroying the Democrat Party, but are weak & insecure people who can never destroy our great Nation!”

“His description of America was borderline dystopian”

On Tuesday, House Democrats passed a resolution formally condemning Trump’s earlier suggestion that the Squad leave the country, and many liberal commentators and journalists have informally joined them.

Even some conservatives have noted that the president hasn’t always talked like a traditional patriot.

Jonah Goldberg wrote in his newly independent column on Friday: “No major party nominee in American history ran down the United States of America as much as candidate Trump did in 2016. His description of America was borderline dystopian, blurring the moral distinctions between America and Putin’s Russia. He said America was run by stupid and weak people and was a ‘laughingstock’ on the global stage. Not even the most race-obsessed left-winger would have said of America that ‘…our African-American communities are absolutely in the worst shape they’ve ever been in before. Ever, ever ever.'”

Standing for the anthem

However, the RNC clearly remained fully on board the Trump train. Asked by Mele if she has gotten a reaction from the Democrats yet, Harrington said the packages were still being mailed but that she wasn’t holding her breath.

“We haven’t heard anything back, and I imagine that they’re going to be silent,” she said. “They have bee unable to stand up for the flag, they’ve been unable to stand up for the anthem, they’ve been unable to stick up for this country as it continues to be attacked by all of their 2020 leading democratic candidates,” she said.

Harrington then took a final shot at Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, who earlier this month told a group of immigrants and refugees that the United States was “founded on white supremacy and “every single structure” reflects the nation’s legacy of racism.

“We have Robert Francis O’Rourke saying we were founded on white supremacy,” she said. “It’s so divisive, it’s so untrue, and it’s degrading to our great founding of the greatest country on earth. So, unfortunately I do not expect we’ll get a response, but I think it sends a clear message to where we as republicans stand.”
