Chrissy Teigen Sums Up Feminism in 2 Words: ‘F— You’

During a panel event Wednesday at House Democrats’ annual policy retreat, headlining speaker Chrissy Teigen was asked what women should say more often.

“Fuck you,” the liberal model-turned-activist, who was joined onstage by her musician husband John Legend, said.

Tiegen’s reply was prompted by moderator Melissa Harris-Perry, who alluded to an exhortation used by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., telling women to say “no” more often.

“Speaker Pelosi has helped to demonstrate in her practice how to say, ‘no.’ If there was one word you would help, particularly women, use more frequently, what would that one word be?” Harris-Perry asked.

The event, which was only partially open to the press, also saw Teigen and Legend criticize President Donald Trump, according to Politico.

The liberal couple is known for their frequent attacks on the president on social media. “Chrissy was ahead of the curve on making fun of Donald Trump. She knew before a lot of people did that he was a joke and a conman and a clown,” Legend reportedly said Wednesday evening.

The Hill reported on Teigen’s criticism of Trump’s controversial immigration policies and his daughter, Ivanka. “When it comes from people, like Ivanka, I will say, that can post all day pictures of her children that are just in her home and ‘oh my daughter is having trouble in her crib’ or ‘my daughter is doing this’ and ‘my daughter is doing this,’ there are children out there that don’t have that opportunity,” she said. “There are children that are completely … honestly, I cannot fathom for a second how scared our children would be if they were without us.”

Teigen has showcased her explicit rhetorical style in the service of feminist activism before. “People have sorely messed up the definition of feminism. It isn’t saying this is wrong and this is right. It’s having the power to do whatever the f–k you want. It’s about having your own beliefs and staying true to them,” the actress said in a 2014 interview with HuffPost in which she discussed a controversy over exposing her nipple in a photograph.
